Music in Nature

Since it seems spring is truly here I am including my composition Spring Dawn in this post. There is music in nature. It's not just the freedom and solace that can be provided by the sight of a hawk on the wing, a green field or even a beautiful cloud formation, it's the quieting of our minds that can be achieved. Out of that comes the music. There is plenty of inspiration everywhere I look as I am lucky enough to live in the Denver area near the Rocky Mountains.
I chose the piano as my instrument whet I was very young and I am so happy that I did. It seems to me that it has the widest range of expression of any instrument. My piano teacher, Delome Kerstner, taught me this when she told me that I would hear water in a Rachmaninoff piece I was struggling with, if I played it correctly. It's a wonderful thought...that most everything can be expressed in music.
