If you have ever spent the night under the open sky in the mountains or anywhere far from the city lights you will recognize my composition Sea of Stars. We have the greatest opportunity here in the Rocky Mountains to experience this feeling of absolute freedom under the canopy of the twinkling night sky. I could lie on my back and watch the night sky for hours. At first it is unsettling to me with so much space and so many millenniums of light it is hard to fathom the endlessness of it. Fathom is a good word to lead into the feelings I have next as something more happens to me and as I am more absorbed by the vast universe it becomes an ocean to me and sailing comes to mind. You will hear this in the music too. Vincent Van Gogh painted it beautifully and many an artist before and since have tried to capture it. This is my version for piano.
There is nothing like watching this every-night miracle and sharing it with someone you love. It’s special treat to watch the heavens with children that you love. You may be amazed at the questions and possibilities that arise if you take the time to share the joy of our Sea of Stars.
